RING 1      CLEAR ROUND DRESSAGE (morning only)                                                   10.30am – 1.00pm

                        Fancy some dressage without the pressure of a competition?  Choose from Cullinghood’s Walk & Trot test or Cullinghood’s Walk, Trot and Canter test, score over 65% and win a clear round rosette!

RING 2      CLEAR ROUND SHOW JUMPING (all day)                                                    From 10.00am

Height of fences will increase throughout the day, starting at 1’6”.  Rosette for every clear round.

Entry fee: £3 per round or two rounds for £5 payable on the day. 

           

 

RING 3      MINI SHOW JUMPING – RING SPONSORED BY OAKLEIGH EQUESTRIAN         10.00am start

 

Class 1            Pole Jumping for Beginners – poles at ground level.  Horse or rider (or both) must be new to show jumping and have never been placed in a jumping competition.  Riders will be judged on their lines to and away from fences, rhythm, balance and riding the correct course.  Young riders may be led.    

Class 2            Mini mini – Fences 1’3”-1’6”.  Open to horse/rider combinations that have never been placed 1st – 3rd in a jumping competition. 

Class 3            Mini midi – Fences 2’0”.  Open to horse/rider combinations that have never been placed 1st – 3rd in a jumping competition. 

Class 4            Mini maxi – Fences 2’3”.  Horses/ponies not to have won any money BSJA.

RING 4      SHOW JUMPING - RING SPONSORED BY EQUESTRIAN PHOTOGRAPHIC          10.30am start

 

Non-Chiltern & Thames members very welcome.  Membership numbers required if competitors wish to qualify.

 

Class 5            Novice Individual Show Jumping - Horses/ponies not to have won any money BSJA.  Fences at 70cm  (2’6”).  This class is a qualifier for the Chiltern & Thames Rider Novice Jumping Challenge. 

Class 6            Intermediate Individual Show Jumping - Horses/ponies not to have won more than £50 BSJA.  Fences at 80cm (2’9”).  This class is a qualifier for the Chiltern & Thames Rider Intermediate Jumping Challenge. 

Class 7            Open Individual Show Jumping - Open to all horses and ponies.  Fences at 90cm (3’0”).  This class is a qualifier for the Chiltern & Thames Rider Open Jumping Challenge.

Class 8            Open Non-Qualifier – Open to all horses/ponies.  Fences at 3’0” – 3’3”.  

 

 

 

RING 5      CHILTERN & THAMES RIDER SHOWING QUALIFIERS                 Approx. 10.00am start

 

Non-Chiltern & Thames members very welcome.  Membership numbers required if competitors wish to qualify.

 

Class 11      Working Hunter – For horses exceeding 153am (15hh). Open to mares and geldings 4 years and over.  Fences between 2’6” and 2’9” (2’9” – 3’0” max at the final).  Judge may ride.  Protective boots or bandages may be worn for the jumping phase but must be removed for the showing phase.  No other change of tack or rider is permitted.  Martingales may be worn.  Body protectors will be permitted during the jumping phase.  A fall of horse or rider will result in elimination on medical grounds.  Class to be judged 60% jumping; 40% confirmation and manners.

 

Class 12      Style and Performance – See separate rule sheet for full details of this class.  This will be run as a combined class but will be split at the final into two sections:

a)                   children not to have reached their 18th birthday on 1st January 2008

b)                   adults, 18 years and over on 1st January 2008

 

Class 13      First Ridden – Open for ponies not exceeding 128cm (12.2hh).  Open to mares and geldings 4 years and over.  Children must not have reached their 11th birthday on 1st January 2008

 

Class 14      Pony Club Pony – Open to ponies not exceeding 153cm that make good all rounders for Pony Club activities.  Open to mares and geldings 4 years & over.  Riders not to have reached their 25th birthday on 1 January 2008.

 

Class 15      Riding Horse – Open to horses 148cm (14.2hh) and above.  Open to stallions, mares or geldings 4 years and over.  Class will be split at the final a) 148cm but not exceeding 158cm b) exceeding 158 cm.

 

Class 16      Ridden Cob – For horses over 148cm (14.2hh) but not exceeding 155cm.  Cobs may be shown hogged, plaited or unplaited.  Cobs must be 4 years and over, mares or geldings.

Class 17      Rehabilitated Race Horses – Open to Thoroughbreds who have retired from racing and are now retrained.  Horses must have raced and be able to show a race record.  Horses are expected to do a freestyle show at the qualifiers.  Horses must be 15hh (152cm) and over.  Open to mares and geldings, aged 4 years and over.  Blemishes are not considered.  Horses must be registered with Weatherby’s General Stud book or an overseas equivalent. 

 

Class 18      Ridden Coloured – For Skewbald and Piebald horses and ponies only.  All heights.  Open to stallions, mares and geldings, 4 years and over. 

 

Class 19      Ridden Veteran – For horses and ponies aged 15 years or over (born in or before 1993).  Open to mares and geldings 4 years and over.  Lead reins are not permitted. 

 

Class 20      In-hand Arabs/part-bred Arabs – Open to horses and ponies 4 years and over.  Open to stallions, mares and geldings.  Class may be split at the final on Purebreds and Part-breds, dependant on entries.

 

Class 21      In-hand Mountain & Moorland Small Breeds – will be run as a combined class but will be split at the final into section a)  Welsh Section A and B and b) Shetlands, Miniature Shetlands, Exmoor and Dartmoor.  Open to stallions, mares and geldings.

 

Class 22      In-hand Mountain & Moorland Large Breeds – will be run as a combined class but will be split at the final into section a) Highland, Fell, Dales, Connemara, New Forest and b) Welsh Section C and D.  Open to stallions, mares and geldings.

Please refer to additional notes sheet regarding Chiltern & Thames Rider Qualifiers.  Please note that times are approximate and will depend on the number of entries on the day.  Competitors are advised to arrive early to avoid missing classes.

 

*Classes in Rings 4 and 5 are open to members and non-members of Chiltern & Thames Rider.  Those who wish to qualify for the show jumping or showing finals at Herts County Showground, Redbourn, Herts on 14h September 2008 must include their Chiltern & Thames Membership number on the entry form or present this to the Show Secretary with entries on the day.

Chiltern & Thames Rider Magazine: Showing & Show Jumping Championships 2008

 

Style & Performance Rules 2008

 

At the finals, Style & Performance will be spilt into two sections:

a)       Riders aged 18 years and over on 1st January 2008 with any breed or type of horse/pony of a suitable size for the rider is permitted, including stallions, geldings and mares 4 years of age and over.  

b)       Children not to have reached their 18th birthday on 1st January 2008, with any breed or type of horse/pony of a suitable size for the rider is permitted, including stallions, geldings and mares 4 years of age and over. 

All sections to be judged 40% turnout of horse/pony and rider (total 40 marks); 60% performance in the form of a freestyle show.  No marks for conformation.  Freestyle show to be held in an area approx. 20m x 40m and is to include the following movements:  Halt, walk on a long rein, trot serpentine, lengthen trot strides on diagonal, canter figure of eight, (riders can complete an ‘S’ shape, i.e. canter on each rein only once), extended canter on diagonal (total 60 marks) = 100 max. score.  Riders must not execute the required movements more than once.  The individual show must be short and flowing.

 

Please note, dressage whips are not permitted and children are not allowed to wear spurs.  The tack and turnout of the horse/pony should be appropriate to the type of horse/pony being presented.  The rider should dress appropriately for the type of horse/pony being presented.  Dress code as per affiliated showing classes does not have to be strictly adhered to – the overall impression is of most importance.  Flower pots will be used to mark out the corners of the arena at the final.

General showing rules

·          Horses and ponies that have qualified for or competed at HOYS (except SEIB ‘Search for a Star’ classes at HOYS), RIHS or Olympia in the years 2006, 2007 or 2008 are not eligible for the C&T Rider Championships. This includes non-qualifier classes at RHIS also.

·          All qualifying competitors must be members of Chiltern & Thames Rider on the day of the show.

·          This Championship is aimed at keen and competitive amateurs, not professionals.

·          All competitors must wear hard hats to the current BSI standard with a 3-point harness chinstrap.

·          Whips must not be any longer than 30”

·          When shown in-hand, all stallions/colts must be bitted.  Stallions/colts may only be led/ridden by riders who attained their 14th birthday by 1st January 2008.

·          All ridden horses must be 4 years or over.

·          Passports must be available for inspection if asked for by a judge or official of the show.

·          Qualification can pass down the line as far as 4th place.  There must be five or more competitors in a qualifying class for the qualification to pass down below 2nd place.

 

General show jumping rules

·          1st and 2nd placed horses and 1st and 2nd placed ponies qualify for the Chiltern & Thames Rider Championships on Sunday 14th September 2008 at Herts County Show Ground.  If 1st and 2nd place have already qualified, the qualification passes down the line to 5th place.

·          There must be a minimum of eight entries in each individual show jumping class to make it a qualifier.

·          All horses and ponies must go clear in the first round in order to qualify.

·          Riders can only enter a maximum of two consecutive classes at the final, e.g. Novice & Intermediate or Intermediate & Open.  Riders cannot enter all three classes at the finals.

RULES & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

 

(Deemed as read and accepted once entry form has been signed and submitted to Show Secretary)

 

1. It is a condition of entry that Cullinghood, the organisers, the landowner, or any site staff/official do not accept liability for accident, loss, damage, injury or illness or for anything that may happen to horses, owners, riders, spectators or any other person or their property whatsoever, however caused.  It shall be a condition of entry that any such entrant agrees to indemnify the promoters/organisers against any claim for loss, injury, damage or legal action.  All persons attending the show do so at their own risk.

 

2. The Judges’, Stewards’ and the Organisers’ decision is FINAL in all cases.  No objection or dispute regarding the decision can be made.  The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry without stating the reason.

 

3. Horse/ponies in ridden classes MUST be 4 years old or over.

 

4. PLEASE NOTE THAT DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

 

5. Any competitor considered to be contravening the Show/Event rules, mistreating an animal or riding in a manner that is considered to be or may cause danger to others will be asked to leave the showground immediately.

 

6. No galloping/cantering around the showground or lorry park.  Please warm up in the designated area.

 

7. The organisers reserve the right to cancel or postpone any event, and reserve the right to amalgamate or split classes according to final entries.

 

8. Entries will only be refunded on receipt of a vets or doctors certificate, minus £2.00, no later than 4 days after the event.

 

9.Please be aware that, under the Horse Passports (England) Regulations 2004, it is illegal for an equine to be transported, for whatever reason, to any destination without its appropriate passport.  We have been informed that Trading Standards officers may check at competitions to spot check that every horse on the site has its appropriate passport.  Please, therefore, bring your passport with you when competing at one of our events as failure to do so may result in your entry being refused without any refund of pre-paid entries.

 

 

HEALTH & SAFETY

 

1. Access to and from the showground MUST NOT BE OBSTRUCTED, so as to allow the emergency services free access.  First Aid is available during the show and this facility is clearly distinguishable.  In case of emergency, there is a telephone in the Secretary’s Tent/Office.  In the event of an emergency the nearest official should be contacted or dial 999 on the nearest telephone.

 

2. Horses are easily frightened and can be dangerous.  All persons are asked to remember this and do nothing that might alarm the horses in particular, no sudden movements.  Please ensure that you keep to the relevant marked areas, i.e. horses only pedestrians only etc.

 

3. All persons mounted on a horse MUST wear a hard hat (that conforms to either EN1384 or PAS 015 standard), also acceptable are hats that conform to American standard prefixed with SEI or ASTM.  Such headgear must be properly secured and correct riding attire must be worn.  Body protectors and gloves are strongly advised.

 

4. Children must be kept under close supervision at ALL times.

 

5. PLEASE DO NOT MUCK OUT your trailer/horsebox onto our field.  Take your rubbish home with you or use the bins provided.

 

6. NO SMOKING ON THE STABLE YARD – riders and spectators must stay in the showground area.
